Good Slime

by sp on January 1, 2009

In a couple of previous posts I’ve mentioned our work cultivating periphyton to trap the very fine particles and dissolved nutrients thought to be responsible for the declining clarity of Lake Tahoe. This work caught the attention of Tahoe Quarterly magazine in their “Best of Tahoe 2008″ edition. They recognized our work–via one of our research partners, the Desert Research Institute–

involving a “green slime” that improves water clarity by trapping fine sediments (TQ 2008, 10(3): pg. 59).

Go slime!
